Choose the coverage you need
The VIOFO A229 Pro 2CH is the candidate for recording both directions. The Garmin Dash Cam Mini 3 is the compact-installation candidate. Consider where an incident is likely to occur and whether you can route the necessary cables cleanly. A second camera is useful only if it is installed and maintained properly.
Look beyond resolution
A readable clip depends on conditions as well as specifications. Glare, precipitation, dirty glass and relative motion can defeat a headline pixel count. Review representative footage with its conditions explained, and check how easily you can retrieve an event. Do not mistake promotional examples for a guarantee of plate recognition.
Parking recording is a power decision
A parked camera must obtain power from somewhere. Check the hardwire kit or battery accessory, its temperature rating and the vehicle battery-protection settings. A camera’s specification does not establish the accessory’s rating. Use professional installation where needed and keep wiring clear of airbags.
Before the first cold spell
Test recording, timestamps, storage-card health and clip export. Revisit the installation if winter visibility or power behaviour changes. If expected temperatures fall outside the stated operating range, seek an alternative with suitable documented limits rather than assuming “winter-ready” marketing is sufficient.
